the 21 year-old. he was standing with a group of people on the afternoon of july 2nd last year when a car pulled up and someone began shooting striking him in the casthest >> funeral services today for one of two men who died in a high rise condominium building fire this past week. mass for 50-year old john fasula was held at the nativity of our lord church in the bridgeport neighborhood. fasula died tuesday when the fire broke out on the seventh floor of the high-rise on south shore avenue. the other victim... 36-year old jameel johnson... employed by a cable company... was working in the building. both men rescued an 81-year old woman from her burning seventh- floor condo by putting her in an elevator and sending her down to the lobby. they grabbed fire extinguishers to try and put the fire out... but firefighters found their bodies outside the woman's condo.

"we need to challenge any politician who thinks it's easier to ask an elementary school teacher to stand up to a gunman with an ar-15, than it is to ask them to stand up to a gun lobbyist with a checkbook." the independent firearm owners association president says gun violence won't be solved with a ban. lawmakers failed to fix the state's pension system in last month's lame duck session. >> the warning came saturday morning from state treasurer dan rutherford... we are now looking at a dire situation. the standard and poors downgrade from a to a-minus puts illinois last on the list... and means a higher cost to borrow money. on wednesday, the state will issue 500 million dollars in new bonds... to pay for roads

and other transportation projects... rutherford says the credit downgrade will cost taxpayers an additional 95 million dollars in interest, when compared to a perfect triple-a bond rating enjoyed by other 11 states including neighboring indiana, iowa and missouri.. our problem in illinois is that we have not substivenly and fairly addressed the state public pension issue. rutherford points to governor quinn and the democratically controlled general assembly for making matters worse in the last two years... raising taxes but not acting on pension reform. this problem didnt come along just now its been accumulating for actually decades. each time the governor set a deadline and didnt meet it there was some negative reaction. its become quite evident to me that the general assembly has not registered what these negative impacts are to be enough to cause a change in the public pensions. rutherford says reform should come in the form of new cost of

breast cancer is still five- months away -- but organizers held a special kickoff event today. it was a small turnout at northwestern memorial's prentice women's hospital -- but they got information about forming teams -- fundraising and training. and they got to meet their fellow walkers -- and some of the people they'll be benefitting. last year -- more than 28- hundred walkers raised more than six-million dollars to support research into a cure for breast cancer. it was a hip-hop festival at chicago's 5th annual winter block party today. the city's best and most diverse groupl of hip-hop artists were on displkay -- including dancers -- musicians -- story- tellers -- poets and more. the block party was sponsored by chicago public media's off-air series. it all got underway at noon at metro on north clark street. the dance battle set the best of chicago's break-dancing crews against each other. what's the phrase? dance like nobody's looking? and what would it take for you to do this? plunge into a frigid lake michigan in the middle of
